| The Grand National |
 |
| The John Smith Grand National will be held at Aintree on the 14th of April 2012 with a start time 4.15. The gruelling four and a half miles of turf, hedges and water jumps always spring some surprises and there are usually a few big winners! In 2010 the bookies lost a packet with flocks of punters backing Sportsman Of The Year Tony McCoy, could it happen again this year with a hot tip winning?!! |

The 2012 Grand National weekend will be held on the 12th, 13th and 14th April at Aintree on Merseyside. 12th is Opening Day, 13th is Ladies Day and 14th is the main event - the Grand National Steeple Chase itself. There are a few records for 2011, £1,000,000 prize money! and a record of over 150 entrants (of which just 40 will be chosen for the race itself). |
Since the first Grand National was held in 1829 at Aintree there have been many well-known owners to win the famous steeplechase including members of the Royal family, TV stars and tycoons. A full upgrading of the stands and enclosures was completed in 2007 at a cost of £30 million including the Queen Mother and Tattersall stands. |
The most famous race in the world was won last year by Ballabriggs ridden of course by Jason Maguire. Previous winners include: Don't Push It in 2010 Mon Momein 2009 COMPLY OR DIE in 2008, Silver Birch in 2007 NUMBERSIXVALVERDE in 2006, Hedgehunter in 2005, Amberleigh House in 2004, Monty's Pass in 2003 and Bindaree in 2002. |
