The Grand National
The John Smith Grand National will be held at Aintree on the 10th of April 2010 with a start time 4.15. The gruelling four and a half miles of turf, hedges and water jumps always spring some surprises and there are usually a few big winners!!!
Race Horses
The 2010 Grand National weekend will be held on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th April at Aintree on Merseyside. 8th is Opening Day, 9th is Ladies Day and 10th is the main event - the Grand National Steeple Chase itself. There are a few records for 2009, £800,000 prize money! and a record 150 entrants (of which 40 will be chosen for the race itself).
Since the first Grand National was held in 1829 at Aintree there have been many well-known owners to win the famous steeplechase including members of the Royal family, TV stars and tycoons. A full upgrading of the stands and enclosures was completed in 2007 at a cost of £30 million including the Queen Mother and Tattersall stands.
The most famous race in the world was won last year by Mon Mome. Previous winners include: COMPLY OR DIE in 2008, Silver Birch in 2007 NUMBERSIXVALVERDE in 2006, Hedgehunter in 2005, Amberleigh House in 2004, Monty's Pass in 2003 and Bindaree in 2002.
